Popis: Australian sappers wearing shrapnel helmets dig a trench system traced out with a line, shoring up the completed trenches with corrugated iron and A-frames, and fitting duckboards. An Australian digging party works beside a light railway system. An armoured engine arrives and collects them. (Note the canvas screens on the ridgeline protecting them from observation). At a supply dump sacks are unloaded from a light railway onto a light tramway, a 'Decanville' cart, and pulled forward to the beginning of the trench system. More men build a reinforced dugout and pillbox from corrugated iron sheeting and concrete.
Construction of a trench system and pillbox by Australian Engineers, Western Front, early 1918.
